Since my student days I have had a passion for visiting galleries and museums. There are certain constants – I love Chinese ceramics, for example - but then something new will jump up and demand my attention. On a trip to the Pompidou Centre, I was overwhelmed by Zoltan Kemeny’s work, and in particular the interplay between two and three dimensional form. I am particularly drawn to objects with a powerful presence. Beauty exists in the strangest artifacts – a display of axe heads no doubt conceals a violent history, but also loving craftsmanship and a sublime sense of form. |
